Changing World

Archived in the category: Common Cents

We are beginning to witness significant changes in the business world as companies come to grip with the reality of the challenging economy. Some of the changes are big – others are small. Some affect many jobs, but will give the business the best chance of survival.

An interesting trend, and a good one in the long run, is the move from printed material to online only. This is becoming the reality for magazines and even newspapers, as both see circulation and advertising numbers both in the decline.

The latest announcement came from Ziff Davis Media, as the declared the future of PC Magazine will be online-only, and will cease printing at the end of 2008.

We will being to see a lot more of this trend amongst the big names in publishing. It’s not a bad thing really, as it will hopefully allow the publication to survive the economic downturn – and will most certainly reduce waste with the discontinuation of the ink and paper tradition.

Online-only publishing also allows the publisher to provide a much quicker turnaround on articles, releasing them from the longer production times involved with print.

Archived in the category: Common Cents

One great source with tips for saving money (other than Champ Money of course), as well as earning more money and investing money – is online message forums.

Generally speaking, any type of “online community” will be only as good as the content provided by its members. The more members there are, the more messages there will be. Keep in mind that not all messages are great ideas, and many are just downright false information. However, if you learn to tell the difference, you can gain a lot from this type of community. But, always consider the content and advice in messages such as these as a starting point in your research. Anything that piques your interest should be thoroughly investigation afterward.

Consider message forums sponsored by popular radio personalities such as Clark Howard or Dave Ramsey first, then move on from their once you’ve become comfortable with the online exchanges taking place on those.
